Wow...
This movie had it all, Michelle, Drama, Humor, Michelle, Nerdyness, and... well... read for yourself!
Just Looking is a Comedy/Drama about a young couple with a little daughter. Everything is fine in this family, and that's the problem. Just fine is not good enough if you spend the rest of your lives together. Both Jim (James LeGros) and Mary (Michelle Forbes) are trying to improve their lives, but their problem is a little miscommunication and misunderstanding.
When, after another just fine love-making session between the husband and wife, Jim steps outside to get some fresh air, he spots his neighbor. She's undressing in front of her window, and Jim discovers the peeping Tom inside him. He finds himself attracted to the woman behind the window. The mystery, passion and discretion of watching her live her life in the bedroom, gives him new ideas to improve his sex-life with Mary.
Mary herself has to hear all the sexual escapades of her female colleague, and also sprouts some kinky ideas for herself. Once they both bring it together in the bedroom, it's like a virgin couple discovering sex for the first time. It's cute and clumsy, but soon gets annoying and tedious. Though, this delivers one of the sexiest movie scenes in cinematic history, for the couple it doesn't work out.
Jim's only sexual outlet is watching his neighbor, over and over again. Every night he gets out to peep at her and fantasize about him being with her. After another night of peeping, he has some equipment malfunction when Michelle wants to have sex with him, Leaving the audience (and mostly the Michelle Fans) screaming at him for his enormous stupidity of not appreciating to have Michelle as his wife! On the other hand, the comedy relief and dramatic sequences are well placed and balanced, and are really, really fun to watch.
Jim cannot further concentrate on his family nor his job as an architect. Because of this, he is losing his wife Mary, whose unwanted being pulled into the sexual activities of her colleague and her boyfriend, and misses a perfect opportunity for a promotion. Mary gets invited by her colleague and ends up watching her and her boyfriend making out, or even pulling her into a threesome with them. Jim doesn't notice this at all, because he's too focused on his neighbor. So focused, that he even places a baby phone at her window, to listen to her having sex.
This movie is as basic a love story as they get. The only difference in this movie is that it's being handled real lightly, with plenty of humor (mostly humiliating men) at the right times. I found myself attached to the characters and even wishing they would solve their problems, even though I knew that this movie had a happy end. The happy ending is pretty much established at the beginning of the movie, because it's just not original enough to pull off some crazy twists.
Though, this movie is MASSIVE fun, the plot is merely a vessel to care the perfect chemistry between the actors, and brilliantly comedic writing and directing. All this makes for a perfect film, that leaves you heart warming and laughing your ass off at the appropriate times!
A must-have for Michelle fans! We've seen way... WAY worse!
